Gintarinė Vaistinė introduces Solum electronic shelf labels at new Mega pharmacy

Gintarinė Vaistinė has deployed nearly 3,000 Solum electronic shelf labels at its new pharmacy in Kaunas’s Mega shopping and leisure centre. Opened in August, the location is one of the chain’s largest pharmacies in Kaunas region. Solum ESL solution was deployed by retail technology company Neto Baltic. By automating price changes, new ESL platform allows pharmacists to fully devote their time to customer service.

Spanning nearly 150 square metres, the new pharmacy has a team of five pharmacy professionals and includes a vaccination room. It follows the chain’s new store design concept, with an emphasis on a functional layout, clear product presentation and comfortable spaces for consultations.

“Our goal was to create a modern pharmacy that provides a welcoming working environment for our team and makes it easier for customers to access personalised advice,” said Rūta Bagdonavičienė, CEO of Gintarinė Vaistinė. “Electronic shelf labels eliminate the need to print, cut and replace paper price tags, as prices are updated automatically. This is particularly valuable in busy shopping centre locations. Reducing these routine tasks gives our pharmacy professionals more time to focus on customers.”

Automated updates also help reduce pricing errors, including delays in displaying promotional prices, and keep shelf prices consistent with those charged at checkout.

The pharmacy uses Solum Core Plus electronic shelf labels, featuring high-resolution e-paper displays with a paper-like appearance. The displays support four colours, allowing discounts and special offers to stand out. Designed for long-term use, the labels offer battery life of up to ten years. Wireless connectivity enables prices to be managed centrally and updated across an entire retail network.

Solum, which originated as a Samsung spin-off, is a leading developer of electronic shelf labels, e-paper and wireless technologies. Its solutions are used by some of the world’s largest retailers.

Neto Baltic, an official Solum partner in the Baltic states, delivered the project on an accelerated schedule. The labels were ordered in late June and were fully operational at the new pharmacy by the end of August.

“Electronic shelf labels are becoming standard practice in pharmacy retail,” said Rokas Budvilaitis, CEO of Neto Baltic. “Almost all major pharmacy chains in Lithuania now use ESL solutions. For pharmacies, the value extends beyond pricing accuracy to more efficient day-to-day operations and the ability to respond quickly to promotions and price changes.”
